How to trade on Deriv easily for beginners
To start trading on Deriv as a beginner, create a free account, switch to the demo account and its virtual funds, choose one market and one simple contract such as Rise/Fall, and place small trades until you understand how each one settles. Decide a loss limit before any real deposit, and begin with the smallest stake allowed.

Step by step
Create an account
Deriv says creating an account is free and that funds are needed only when you are ready to trade. You must be 18 or older, and full access requires identity verification.
Stay on the demo account
Demo accounts come loaded with virtual funds. Everything in the next three steps can be done without a deposit.
Pick one market
Many beginners start on a volatility index because it trades at all hours. A lower-numbered index moves less per tick.
Pick one contract
Rise/Fall asks one question: will the price finish higher or lower. Learn it fully before trying anything else.
Read the payout before you buy
The order form shows what the contract pays and what it costs. If you lose, an option costs its whole stake.
Place twenty small trades and write them down
Note the stake, the result and what you expected. You are learning how the contract behaves, not trying to win.
Set limits, then deposit a little
Decide the most you will lose in a day. Only then fund the account, with money you can afford to lose.
What you can trade
| Type | What it is | Where on Deriv |
|---|---|---|
| Options | A fixed stake on an outcome; the stake is the most you can lose | Deriv Trader and the Deriv app |
| Multipliers | A position that follows the price with a multiplier | Deriv Trader and the Deriv app |
| CFDs | Leveraged positions on price movement | Deriv MT5 and Deriv cTrader |
Start with options on the demo account. CFDs involve leverage, and Deriv's own warning is that they carry a high risk of losing money rapidly.
The beginner mistakes
- Depositing on the first day.
- Raising the stake after a loss.
- Copying a bot or a signal without knowing its rules.
- Treating a winning first week as proof of skill.
Using FXNOD with a Deriv account
FXNOD is a separate terminal that works on top of your own Deriv account. You connect by signing in on Deriv's page, and can then trade by hand in Trade Pilot or run a bot, on the demo account first. Your balance stays at Deriv.
Questions people ask
- Is Deriv good for beginners?
- It offers a free demo account and small stakes, which helps. Its products are high risk, and short contracts lose money quickly. Being easy to start is not the same as being easy to profit from.
- What is the easiest trade type on Deriv?
- Rise/Fall is the simplest to understand. A losing Rise/Fall contract still costs the whole stake.
- Do I need to verify my identity on Deriv?
- Deriv says full access requires identity verification. Expect to be asked for documents before you can use every feature, including withdrawals.
