Deriv P2P: how it works and how to stay safe
Deriv P2P is Deriv's peer-to-peer service for moving money in and out of a Deriv account. You exchange with another verified user using a local payment method, and Deriv holds the funds in escrow until both sides confirm. It is useful where cards and bank transfers are awkward. The main risk is being talked into dealing outside the platform.

How an order works
Choose an ad
Pick an amount within the advertiser's range and a payment method.
The funds go into escrow
Deriv says the agreed amount is placed in escrow when the trade starts.
The buyer pays
By the agreed local method, directly to the seller.
The seller confirms receipt
Only after the money has really arrived in their own account.
Escrow releases
The Deriv balance moves to the buyer.
Buying and selling
| You want to | On Deriv P2P you | You are exposed until |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | Buy: pay a seller in local currency | The seller confirms and escrow releases |
| Withdraw | Sell: receive local currency from a buyer | You have checked the money is in your bank |
Limits
Deriv describes a tier system that sets your daily buy and sell limits according to your activity and verification level. Its payment page showed up to 10,000 USD a day and a maximum processing time of one hour. Your own limits are shown in the P2P section of your account.
The scams
- A fake payment proof: a screenshot or an SMS that looks like a bank alert. Release only after checking your real balance.
- Pressure to release quickly, or a claim that the payment is delayed.
- A payment from a third party's account, which may be reversed or stolen money.
- An offer of a better rate by dealing directly on a messaging app. Deriv advises never to complete or negotiate exchanges outside the platform.
- Someone claiming to be Deriv support inside a chat.
Rules to trade by
- Check the counterparty's completion record before choosing an ad.
- Pay only from an account in your own name, and accept only from the named counterparty.
- Confirm received money in your banking app, never from a screenshot.
- Keep all communication inside the order chat.
- If something is wrong, raise a dispute in the platform instead of cancelling.
Availability
Deriv P2P is not offered everywhere: Deriv's terms say it is unavailable to clients residing in the EU. Whether you see it depends on your country and account.
